This past week I had a research interview, and had the privilege of taking part in a Cyber security conference by the Security Advisor Alliance. My research interview was with Mr. Court Simas, the Co-Founder and Director of Technology at Oven Bits, an App Development company based in Dallas. We discussed where technology is headed from its advancements in software to the growing field of Augmented and Virtual Reality. Then on Wednesday, I had the privilege to participate in 1 of the 12 Security Advisor Alliance’s Cyber Security conferences in the nation. The Security Advisor Alliance is a nonprofit organization focused on educating the public about the growing field of Cyber Security, and is led by CISO’s of numerous companies. At the conference I learned about the $1 Trillion dollars lost annually to cyber issues from malicious attacks or computer errors that shut down critical systems for hours losing hundreds of dollars per second on vital servers for e-commerce, banks, or other systems that directly or indirectly deal with money. Not only did I learn about Cyber Security but I was also able to participate in an online CTF (Capture the Flag) event against the other attendees to learn more about different types of encryption and steganography. During the event I was also able to network with a few professionals including the CISO and CSO from MoneyGram and Southern Methodist University, and I was also able to talk to a Lead Computer Scientist from the FBI. Overall the event was a great opportunity to meet professionals and learn about the growing field of Cyber Security.
