Interviews, Speeches, and Subnetting

This past week has been full of driving and meeting and talking and learning. I had a couple of research interviews, gave my first 10-minute speech, and also learned about subnetting. My first interview this week was with Mr. Ralph de la Vega, the Vice Chairman of AT&T, Inc. and CEO of Business Solutions & International at AT&T. We discussed welcoming obstacles, keys to leading a team, and how software is redefining the technology industry; we also discussed the importance of getting out of my comfort zone, learning from my mistakes, and to always keep learning. Another interview I had this week was my interview with Mr. Kevin Hart, the Founder and CEO of Aireal, an Augmented Reality platform. We discussed the growing field of Augmented Reality and some of Aireal’s unique technologies and patents. I learned about SLAM, Simultaneous Localization and Mapping, and how location based Augmented Reality is different and the benefits it poses. Aireal uses longitude, latitude, and altitude measurements to physically place an object at a certain location allowing it be mapped to an object's spot on the earth. Also this week I gave a 10-minute speech in ISM about the research I have done the past 12-weeks from the different parts data structures and algorithms to what I had learned in my interview with Mr. Hart. I also learned about IPv4 subnetting, choosing the network class and the subnet ID to maximize efficiency depending on the number of hosts and the number networks needed. I practiced this by working on a router’s CLI and statically assigning an IP address and subnet mask to a couple computers and pinging them to ensure connectivity. Overall this week I had two amazing interviews, gave my longest speech yet in ISM, and practiced IPv4 subnetting.
